Revolution Renaissance

Finland
Power Metal

Revolution Renaissance was Timo Tolkki's first new project after his dispute and eventual split with Stratovarius. Towards the end of his time with Stratovarius, he had been working on a new album, said to be in the style of their earlier works, as at the time band had been going through an experimental period. The band had recorded a demo version of this album titled Revolution Renaissance. After the split, Timo decided to take everything he had written for his new album, and started a new project with the same name. In 2008, with the help of various guests, the new album was released, with a different name: New Era.

Later in 2008, Timo started putting together a new lineup, which included Gus Monsanto (Vocals), Justin Biggs (Bass), Mike Khalilov (Keyboards) and Bruno W. Agra (drums). With this new lineup in place, they began working on a new album titled Age of Aquarius, which was released in early 2009. This album featured a much darker sound than usual for Tolkki, and stylistically it was more symphonic metal than power metal.

In 2010, with new members Magnus Rosén (Bass) and Bob Katsionis (Keyboards), the band released a third album titled Trinity. This album felt very much like a late 90's/early 2000's era Stratovarius album, and was the most power metal oriented album the band released. While the album was released, it was announced beforehand that the band would be splitting up.
