Germany
Power Metal / Heavy Metal

Rebellion are a heavy/power metal band from Germany. They were formed in 2001 by ex-Grave Digger members Uwe Lulis (guitar) and Tomi Göttlich (bass). The original line up of the band saw them joined by Michael Seifert (vocals), Björn Eilen (guitar) and Randy Black (drums). The formation of the band caused a litigation with Grave Digger's Chris Boltendahl, as Uwe Lulis originally attempted to name this new band Grave Digger.

Their first album, Shakespeare's MacBeth - A Tragedy In Steel, was a concept album about William Shakespeare's work Macbeth, and included spoken passages with members of the band and other people as the story's characters. It was released in 2002.

The second album called Born A Rebel involved more standard heavy-metal lyrics – about motorcycles, metal, war, etc. – and the music was somewhat rougher than on the debut. Born a Rebel is, to date, the only Rebellion album that is not a concept album. It was released in 2003.

In 2005 they released the first part of a trilogy of concept albums about the Vikings and Norse mythology. It is collectively known as The History of The Vikings and the first part is called Sagas Of Iceland. As of this album Randy Black was replaced by Gerd Lücking as the band's drummer.

The second part of the trilogy, entitled Miklagard, was released in 2007. Speed, powerful and heavy guitar riffs changed the middle tempo of the previous album. A single for the track Miklagard was released prior to the album. Björn Eilen was replaced with Simone Wenzel on this release.

In 2009, prior to the final part of the Viking Trilogy, Rebellion released the EP, The Clans are Marching. This featured their own version of Grave Digger's Rebellion (The Clans are Marching) track from the Tunes of War album, as well as some tracks from the next album.

The third and final album of the trilogy, Arise: From Ginnugagap To Ragnarök was released in 2009. Musically heavier and aggressive than ever before, the album is about as extreme as power metal gets.

In late 2010 the future of Rebellion was thrown into uncertainty as founding member Uwe Lulis decided to leave the band. At the same time second guitarist Simone Wenzel and drummer Gerd Lücking also decided to leave Rebellion. Lulis and Lücking will be appearing in a new band together, while Wenzel has joined the band Vernissage.

Tomi Göttlich and Michael Seifert decided to continue on with Rebellion however. So in 2011 a search for new members began. The first on board was guitarist Oliver Geibig, who replaced Uwe Lulis. Geibig and Tomi Göttlich had played together in other bands such as the hard rock group The Magic of Radio, so his inclusion was a naturally choice for Rebellion. and He was shortly followed by drummer David Faifer. The new line-up was completed in July 2011 with the announcement of Stephan Karut as the band's second guitarist. However David Faifer didn't work out due to distance restrictions between him and the rest of the band. He was quickly replaced with Matthias Karle.
